Scope and Contents
The collection primarily consists of correspondence and ephemera about the various family members of the Pease, Humphrey, and Crossley families.
The Pease family series includes Calvin Pease's correspondence, certificates about his various political appointments, will and testament, and obituary.
The Humphrey family series primarily consists of the Calvin P. Humphrey Civil War correspondence from Camp Chase (June-September 1862). Other items of interest relating to Calvin include a speech he wrote on 'political integrity' for the Junior Exhibition program at Western Reserve College and an obituary.The items on Van Rensselaar Humphrey and Delphine Whedon Humphrey are primarily biographical information created by others. Laura Pease Tallmadge papers consists of two letters: one by Jefferson C. Davis guaranteeing safe passage for her sons through the lines, and another letter praising her late husband Van Renselaar Humphrey.
The Crossley family series consists of correspondence and genealogical material.
The miscellaneous series includes several items found with the collection but not attributed to an individual or family including a draft of a philosophy paper and newspaper articles.
