Scope and Content

The collection consists of the various records of the American Legion, Lee Bishop Post No. 464. The records detail the various events that were held by the Hudson ALA such as the Past Presidents Parley, Poppy day, Parade entries, and the Lighting Committee. There is also details on the various charities and public works that the ALA was involved in such as Project Learn and other charity groups and organizations around Hudson, Ohio. In addition there is general information and membership of the Fraternal Order of Police Associates (FOPA). Finally the charter that was granted to the Hudson American Legion Lee Bishop unit 464 is housed with the oversized documents in the Hudson Historical Society.

History of History of the American Legion, Lee Bishop Post No. 464

The Lee Bishop American Legion, Lee Bishop Post No. 464 of Hudson, Ohio, can be dated back to 1919. It received its official charter on April 18th, 1924, and has been active in the community ever since. The American Legion's mission is "committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans." Hudson League of Service or Hudson Community Service Association was a separate organization that merged with the Hudson American Legion in 2011. The purpose of the Hudson Community Service Association was to establish and carry out a system of volunteer service which would be of the greatest benefit to the community, and primarily its children. The membership was originally opened to any woman residing in the community who wished to do volunteer work and who paid annual dues.
