The collection includes biographical material, correspondence, genealogical materials, as well as various wills and deeds. The collection mainly concerns the family of Heman Oviatt, Jr. including his wife Susannah Sweet (b.1834) and their child Kittie Oviatt Barriss, and her husband William H. Barriss. The collection includes some information Heman's father Captain Heman Oviatt, Sr. (1775-1854) and his grandfather Benjamin Oviatt (1755-1832).
