History of Hudson Players

The origins of the present Hudson Players organization are rooted in the Hudson Players Guild, an organization created in the late 1920s. The Guild performed plays in Western Reserve Academy's Chapel to benefit Hudson Primary School. The Hudson Players Guild disbanded in the 1930s.

The modern Hudson Players was founded in September 1945. According to the 1973-1974 season program book, "The Players was born over a cup of coffee and idle morning chatter in Saywell's Drug Store. Nine people decided that Hudson was a nice plate to live, but it lacked one thing--a little theatre." The first show, "Fireman Save My Child," was performed in Hudson's Town Hall. In 1947, the Hudson Players wrote bylaws and created an executive board. The Players have performed in the Town Hall, the high school, the Old Church on the Green, and presently, the Barlow Community Center.
