The collection includes genealogical materials on the Babcock and Baldwin families, including a marriage bond of Babcock's parents, Frederick and Salome (Bronson) Baldwin and life certificate of her husband, Perry H. Babcock, and family recipes; personal correspondence, copies of will, and announcement of Baldwin Babcock lecture series; reminiscences about Babcock by Harriet H. Thwing and I.T. Frary; article about her life by Grace Goulder Izant; book of cloth samples collected by Caroline Babcock; obituary and family Bible. Includes photographs of Caroline Baldwin Babcock, her cousin Hiram Griswold, and her husband Perry Babcock, and photographs of Perry Babcock's store in Cleveland, Ohio, Babcock, Hurd & Co.

Biography of Caroline Baldwin Babcock

Caroline Baldwin Babcock (1841-1921) was a civic and social leader in Hudson, Ohio, and founder of the Hudson Library & Historical Society. She was the daughter of early Hudson pioneers Frederick (1794-1880) and Salome Bronson Baldwin (1804-1881). After being raised in Hudson she married Perry H. Babcock (1816-1897) a successful Cleveland, Ohio, merchant. She lived for a period of time with her spouse on Euclid Avenue in Cleveland before returning to Hudson in her later years.

Acquisition Information

The Hudson Library & Historical Society gathered and organized this collection. Some items (mostly artifacts) were directly saved, created, and collected by Caroline Baldwin Babcock. Accession nos. 62-243 and 77-1346.
