Scope and Content

The collection primarily consists of photographs and a few papers. The papers include two letters, one written to Aunt Bessie from unknown (1925) and another from Ellen Brewster Beebe (1889). Ephemera includes miscellaneous Hudson programs, David Duncan Beebe's certificate acknowledging his election to Senator of the General Assembly, dated October 11, 1877. The photograph collection is extensive and includes many portraits and photographs of the Beebe family and descendants (including Greens and Hodges). The photographs also include various buildings and scenes in Hudson. All photographs have been digitized and are individually cataloged in the library's photograph database.

Biography of Biography or History

Papers and photographs of the descendants of David Duncan Beebe (1831-1889) and Ellen Brewster Beebe (1836-1912). David Duncan Beebe married merchant Anson A. Brewster (1807-1864)'s daughter Ellen Brewster Beebe and continued her father's business after Anson's death in 1864. He served as a mayor of Hudson in 1863 and a state senator in the late 1860s. David and Ellen's descendants are as follows: William Brewster Beebe (1856-1930) m. Olive Bliss (1856-1930) [no known children] Nellie Ellen Beebe (1861-1932) [no known children] Bessie Beebe Green (1863-1934) m. William Green (1861-1925) [known children include William Duncan Green (1887-1938)] Jessie Beebe Hodge (1867-1949) m. Karl Hodge (1865-1922) [known children include Orlando John Hodge (1894-1975)]
