Biography of Biography or History

The Trowbridge family originally hailed from England. In the early seventeenth century, Thomas Trowbridge immigrated to the US and settled in Dorchester, Massachusetts.

The next several generations of Trowbridges settled and resided in Connecticut until the first Daniel Trowbridge (1757-1814) returned to Massachusetts where his son, Daniel, was born. The second Daniel Trowbridge (1796-1881)--"the tenth of twelve children--"was born on February 17, 1796. In 1816, he became fervently involved in religious matters, a pursuit that took him to Ontario County in New York in the fall of the same year.

In New York, Daniel met a woman named Sally Blakely (1797-1887) who he eventually married in December of 1817. He and his family moved to Shalersville, Ohio in 1833. Six years later, they moved to Ravenna before ultimately settling in Hudson in 1852.

During this time, Daniel continued to be active in the church and served in various leadership positions before his death on February 21, 1881 in Hudson.

This information can be found in the papers from this collection. Those papers include pedigrees, a history of Daniel Trowbridge, and page 48 of the Trowbridge Family History book.
