Biographical / Historical

Little is known about the John J. Farrar family beyond what is included in the manuscript collection. This collection includes materials relating to both John Farrar (1785-1858) and his son, John Nutting Farrar (1819-1894). The papers date from 1840 to 1875, and indicate that John J. Farrar owned a tin shop, sold furs, and acted as constable in Hudson. John N. Farrar worked with his father for much of his life, and continued a similar business after his father died.
