History of Veterans History Project

The Veterans History Project of the American Folklife Center "collects, preserves, and makes accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war" (http://www.loc.gov/vets/about.html). The United States Congress via Public Law 106-380 initiated the Veterans History Project in 2000. The project has brought together over 65,000 personal accounts.

The Hudson Library & Historical Society first became involved in the Veterans History Project through a Hudson High School history class in 2004 and 2005. Members of the Hudson Genealogical group also conducted interviews in 2006 and 2007.
