Biography of Biography or History

The Hudson Bicentennial Commission was formed in 1995 with 19 original members. The committee met for the first time in December of that year and used the meeting to plan the celebrations time frame, decorations, and activities. The Bicentennial celebration unofficially began at a city council meeting in January 1999 with the year being deemed a "time of celebration." June 19 marked the official start of the festivities with a reenactment of David Hudson's 1799 arrival in range 10, town 4 (later renamed Hudson). Other activities included performance of a hymn and John Brown play, walking tours, a quilt show, and the unearthing of a time capsule buried in 1950. The celebration continued into the following year with a commemoration of David Hudson's birthday and Memorial Day parade before it ended in June with a service of Thanksgiving. This information can be found in the 5 November 1995 issue of the Hudson Hub on page 3 and the 13 January 1999 issue of the Hudson Hub on pages 1 through 4.
