Biography of Biography or History

The creation of the Hudson American Revolution Bicentennial Commission was formed in 1974. The commission was the brainchild of the Hudson chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Interested parties were invited to attend a meeting at Marion "Molly" White (1909-1988)'s home in February, in which nine people participated. However, the numbers slowly grew during the following weeks. Eventually, the commission--led by White and Nan Herron (dates unknown)--had 27 members. The commission then spent the next two years planning the city's celebration.

It developed coloring books and pins, raised money for the clocktower's restoration, arranged for musical entertainment, and decorated downtown Hudson. The celebration itself lasted the entire Fourth of July weekend in 1976. It began with a performance by Ethel Delaney and Her Buckeye Strings on Friday. The following day included a hot air balloon and a fireworks display. The weekend culminated in a parade, a show by Stow's Royal Paraders, and a birthday celebration involving a 10-foot tall cake.

This information can be found in the collection and pages 1 and 5 of the 7 July 1976 issue of the Hudson Hub.
