Scope and Content
The collection consists of four leaves describing the Shilts' travels to the Caribbean on Talamanca, United Fruit Company Ship (a luxury liner cruise ship). The journal details their experiences in Jamaica, Colombia, and Panama from May 9-19, 1939.

Biography of Martha and William Shilts
Martha Shilts (1910-1977) was born in Oakland, Maryland and married William W. Shilts (1910-2004) in 1935. She was a graduate of Mt. Union College in 1932, a 50-year member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She worked as a first grade teacher for the Hudson Schools and also worked for the Alliance Public Schools. Martha and William had three children: William W. Shilts, Winifred S. MacDougall, and Rebecca F. Snider.
William Winston Shilts (1910-2004) was born in Akron. He graduated from Western Reserve Academy in 1931 and Mount Union College. He was a Past Master of Hudson Lodge #510 F & AM, member of the First Congregational Church, and served as clerk of Hudson Village. He worked as an editor and manager at the Hudson Hub times from 1932 to 1934 and worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for 31 years. Martha and William Shilts were founding members of the Hudson Genealogical Study Group. (from obituaries of Martha and William Shilts).
