Henry Noble Day was born in New Preston, Connecticut on August 4, 1808. He was the second son of Noble and Elizabeth (née Jones) Day. When he came of age, Day studied and graduated from Yale University in 1828. He continued his education and graduated from Yale Divinity School in 1834. In 1836, he married Jane Louisa Marble After completing his studies, Henry served as a teacher in New Jersey and a pastor of the First Congregational Church in Connecticut.

He resigned his post as pastor in 1840 to become a professor at Western Reserve College in Hudson, Ohio. He spent the next eighteen years teaching rhetoric and theology before resigning in 1858. Later that year, Henry became the president of the Ohio Female College, a post he occupied until 1864. In 1877, he earned a Doctor of Laws degree from Iowa State University. On January 12, 1890, Henry died after suffering from an influenza attack that resulted in pleurisy.

Jane Louisa Day (née Marble) was born on November 6, 1809 in Connecticut to Simeon and Susan (née Bishop) Marble. She married Henry Noble Day in 1836, and the couple moved to Hudson, Ohio when Henry became a professor at Western Reserve College. Jane occupied herself with maintaining the house and taking care of the children while Henry taught.

The Days remained in Ohio for the duration of Henry’s teaching career at the college before returning to Connecticut where they stayed for the remainder of their lives. Jane lived another three years after Henry’s death in 1890 before dying on April 29, 1893. She is interred at Grove Street Cemetery in New Haven, Connecticut.
