Biographical / Historical
This business changed hands many times: Hamlin & Dawes (ca. 1833); Hamlin & Davis (1833); Hamlin & Ellsworth; Ellsworth & Buss (ca.1841); Buss & Bond; John Buss (ca.1845) Buss came to Hudson as a Western Reserve College student in 1833, but left and headed South (never completing school) due to illness. He later returned to Hudson and worked in the Kent & Brewster store (Hudson merchants Anson Brewster (1807-1864) and Zenas Kent of Ravenna). Local merchant Edgar B. Ellsworth went into business with Buss around 1841 (the same year Ellsworth built a store at 41 E. Main Street). Source: Perrin, William Henry, and A. A. Graham. 1881.
