Stock share book, 1850-1865
Scope and Content
The stock shares book of Hudson Branch of Cleveland and Twinsburgh Plank Road most likely belonged to Secretary John Markillie and was predated for 185_ (to be filled in later by the purchasing stockholder). Every single stock share page was signed by John Markillie. Those stock shares that were completed were also signed by the President A. A. Brewster. Only a handful of the pages have stockholder information present, which includes: L.C. Nelson, Sylvia Pritchard, G. D. Harris, James Alexander, L.D. Upson, Gardner Parmelee, and A. A. Brewster. The stock share book later came into the possession of the Read Family (the connection is unknown). A young William Read (W.R.) repurposed the book into a scrapbook inscribing "This Book Belongs to W.R. Who Began It In 1865" on the front cover. He pasted newspaper clippings of short stories over the first 13 pages of the book covering some of the original stock share pages. He also included a stock share entry to Charlie Read in 1865 and declared himself the Secretary. The last page of the scrapbook includes Read's drawings and other scribbles.
