Woman's Christian Temperance Union record book, 1874-1886
Scope and Content
The record book of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union of Hudson consists of a brief history, mission statement and personal pledge of the organization (1874), and meeting summaries including local events around the community from 1874-1885. The record book also mention of an appeal written by the Pastor's wife Mrs. E.W. Root (Vice President) to the saloon keepers around Hudson (Spring 1874) stating their mission. Loose pages contained in the folder consists of secretary reports 1881-1885 and the secretary and pledge signatures from group members. The loose pages were initialed by "L. W. Lord," Hudsonite Laura Lord (1827-1915). Judging by the handwriting on the record book and loose secretary reports, it is likely that L.W. Lord created the secretary reports and wrote the record book history up until she took over as secretary.
